Hidden goodness

Fortunately my family are fairly easy to get fruit and vegetables into, although admittedly some are easier than others. Despite this, I do like to sneak in extra goodness where I can.

Hemp seeds contain high levels of protein and beneficial plant sterols that are important in the human body.  Carun hemp seeds have an excellent ratio (1:3) of essential fatty acids (EFAs) omega-3 and omega-6, which is reported to be closest to that of the human body, therefore promoting a healthy metabolism when taken as part of a healthy balanced diet. Carun hemp seeds also promote healthy lactation for nursing mothers, and can increase the amount of gamma-Linolenic acid (GLA) in breast milk.

Hemp seed is really useful because you can hide it in all sorts of dishes and they don’t even know … being sneaky is something that’s allowed when you are Mummy, I’m sure it’s in the job description I was handed the day my first child was born.

Anyway, you can add hemp seed to all sorts of things like cereal or sprinkle it on deserts even. I prefer to add it to dishes like cottage pie, spag bol and stir frys. You just sprinkle some in whilst cooking and not only are you adding goodness but flavour as well.

I like the Carun Hemp Seed or the Good Hemp Seed, £13.99 for 500g.

  1. Like you I don't really have a problem with foods in my family but I try to sneak some hidden goodness in when I get chance, things like anchovies, capers etc. I found you using #TastyTuesdays and I've scheduled this to be shared on facebook, it's great info
