Learn to swim

Learning to swim is a life skill as far as I am concerned. I’ve written before about the benefits of baby swimming classes and also about competitive swimming for older children – learning to swim and building water confidence are things that are so valuable to children. Swimming can be great fun, a super form of exercise but also help save a life.

My dad used to take me to the swimming pool every Sunday morning when I was little. He got me swimming and made sure I was confident in water and then my parents enrolled me for lessons.

All my children have had baby swimming lessons and the big kids then moved on to regular swimming lessons when they were old enough. We currently have one child in swimming club, one in swimming lessons, and our youngest is still doing baby swimming. We try to get in the pool as a family as often as possible too.

A recent study found that 57% of children between 7-11 years old cannot swim. In a bid to change this Swimshop are running a ‘Save a Life, Learn to Swim’ campaign. Swimshop stock a whole range of items that can support your family in learning to swim, including a range of arm bands, floats, swimming costumes, goggles and other equipment.
