I love to cook.
I would be quite happy shut away in the kitchen all day with mountains of fresh ingredients and some tunes.
When you juggle work and family, things like cooking for pleasure can go out of window. Occasionally I will get the chance to spend time cooking but I normally have our smallest strapped to me when that happens. Cooking can become more functional than anything else. That’s not to say we eat rubbish, we don’t and I’m careful about what we eat as a family but just that much of what we eat is quick to do or prepared in advance. In the winter I use the slow cooker a lot but after a while all the dishes start to look the same.
I love little tricks for jazzing up meals and sometimes just something as simple as changing the oil you cook with can add a whole new flavour to something. For example, a drizzle of lemon infused oil on fish can be really lovely. I love popping a spoon of cream cheese in a risotto just before it is served or a spoon of mustard in a beef stroganoff. Just because it is quick, doesn’t mean it has to be boring.
We keep a range of infused oils on the work surface. No doubt in my brother’s kitchen he has loads of oils he has infused himself, but he only has a little dog to chase after so I’ll give that as my excuse. He is an amazing cook and makes everything from scratch.
Do you have any quick tricks for jazzing up meal times when you don’t have a lot of time?

Quick and easy – thanks for reading Jenny!
Hmmm these look yummy. I’m always looking for quick tips to enhance dinner. We like a dash of hot smoked paprika on our meals – especially if cooking for the same things for the kids as they don’t like eating spicy foods, so we can add to ours only.
Oooh yes that sounds really good! Will give that a go 🙂
Oooh I love the sound of these!!
They are so good, the chilli one especially!
