Sterilising on the move

What is sterilising?

Sterilising is basically a way of killing germs. There are 2 ways to sterilise. 1 – steaming (using an electric steriliser or by using the microwave) or 2 – using cold water and a sterilising solution, such as sterilising tablets or sterilising fluid.

You can sterilise baby’s bottles, teats and dummies and if you’re breastfeeding it’s a good idea to sterilise breast-pump parts and nipple shields too as milk (whether from you or from a tin) is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Milton can be used to sterilise baby’s soothers, teething rings, small plastic toys and weaning items as well. Milton makes a range of sterilising equipment so parents can rest assured that their baby’s feeding equipment is clean and germ-free. In just 15 minutes with the cold-water method, and in 2 minutes using steam sterilising in the microwave 99.9% of germs including bacteria, viruses and fungi are killed.

  1. This would be so handy! I always carry about 4 so others as they always end up on the ground!

  2. As a child I lived in Africa, and we used Milton to sterilise fruit and salad vegetables, as tap water was not potable and would have just added more bacteria. It’s a good idea to do this if you want to eat fruit or salad while on holiday any place where the water is dodgy, e.g. India, Morocco, Egypt.
