Summer Fun with the Kids

With the kids off school for six weeks, do you know how to keep them entertained throughout summer? Here we discuss how to beat your children’s boredom.

“Mummy I’m bored.” “There’s nothing to do.” “I’m bored!” “MUM!”

Sound familiar? If you are the parent of a child on their summer holidays, the chances are that the answer is yes. If you are on the verge of insanity and are desperate to find some activities to keep your kids entertained/quiet, then we are here to help.

The summer holidays can feel like an incredibly long time, for child and parent, but fear not because it doesn’t have to cost a bomb to entertain the little ones.

Join a Club

There will be many, many local clubs up and running this summer where kids can go and socialise with other children, as well as having fun in the process. Sports clubs also help children with getting much-needed exercise, as we know they can be prone to sitting in all day on the games console, although I have to say we’ve never struggled with this.

Usually, clubs only ask for a very small fee to help cover the costs of staging the session, and this also provides you with a good opportunity to meet other local parents. Any relationships that can be formed from this can only be a bonus both for your and the children.

Play Dates

Arrange for your children to meet up with their friends from school, especially if they live quite far away. Often, children only see their friends when they are at school and completely lose touch during the holidays, which is a crying shame.

For many, unless all of their classmates live on the same street as them, they do not see their friends at all during summer. Make sure to keep contact details of parents to arrange a play date when they can go around, you might find that the other parents are also highly grateful for this idea.

Get the Kids Cooking

What better way to stave off the boredom that to get the kids joining in everyday activities such as cooking? Not only can this be great fun, but it teaches them valuable skills that they can take with them into later life.

Every child should be taught to cook, even if only the very basic of dishes. Getting the kids into the kitchen can be a great way for parents to bond with their children, as well as making delicious treats that everyone can enjoy!

Make the Most of the Garden

Far too many families do not make proper use of their garden, especially where children are concerned. To prepare the ultimate play are, look into installing synthetic grass that acts as the ideal support for rough play without completely ripping up your lawn. You will be thankful when you don’t hand muddy footprints to clean up afterwards.

In the garden, you can install swings and sandpits for younger children, and also sports equipment such as nets and basketball hoops for older children to make the most of. Not only guaranteed to keep them occupied for hours on end, especially while the sun is out, but is another method of ensuring they remain active this summer.

Games

Don’t be afraid to get inventive and use both yours and your kids’ imagination. Simple games that can be played around the house that get the kids involved can make for hours of free fun that will keep them entertained.

Board games and party games are a particular favourite among families looking to keep the kids occupied with group activities because you can never truly beat the old classics.
