Book Advent Calendars: Plus your chance to *WIN* Children’s Christmas books from Quarto Kids

Last Christmas (2020), in a bid to keep things exciting despite the disruption caused by COVID-19, I introduced a couple of new family traditions, Christmas Bedding and a Christmas Book Advent Calendar – both things I’ve been meaning to do for years. Both of these went down really well, so I will be repeating them again this year.

In terms of the book advent calendar, it’s really straightforward, a Christmas-themed book a day, every day from 1st December to 24th December, at least that is how I do it.

The beauty is you can use many of the same books every year, taking out a few that are too young and introducing a few new ones each time, as it’s only once a year, there is no chance of children getting bored of the stories and it all helps build the Christmas excitement and magic.

Here are some of the books I will be including this year. Our favourites include: The Night Before Christmas and the Christmas Stick Man.

The four new books I will be adding into the mix this year are these titles from Quarto Kids. We haven’t read any of these before so these will be great additions. Having looked through these I love Croc-O’clock! Initially I thought this couldn’t be a Christmas story but the beauty of this book is that you can sing it to the tune of The Twelve Days of Christmas – utter genius!!!

    1. We’ve been doing a Xmas book advent for a few years now, the one about a very windy Christmas when Rudolph are the sprouts is the winner in our house (can’t remember it’s exact name)

  1. We have a lovely Christmas book called The Little Christmas Tree. It’s really heartwarming and my daughter loves reading it at Christmas but not other times of the year haha. It comes out a week before Christmas.

  2. The night before Christmas we have a book of it and it is beautifully illustrated and we all love it.

  3. That’s a hard one! We like the traditional Christmas story best I think about the birth of Jesus as it’s nostalgic

  4. The Snowman and Twas The Night Before Christmas – reading both of these is our Christmas Eve tradition

  5. I don’t remember Christmas books in the house when I was a child, but I love reading The Night Before Christmas to my grandchildren.

  6. I can’t remember what it’s called but we have a musical book which plays all the Christmas songs. It’s lovely

  7. The Jolly Christmas Postman! I had a copy of it when I was little and now I love reading it to all of my nieces and nephews!

  8. I would love to win this book bundle for my son. We have embraced reading during lockdown. I would also be able to gift a book to my nephew

  9. My favourite is A Christmas Carol. Jack’s current favourite is Father Christmas’s Fake Beard by Terry Pratchett!!

  10. Anything by Julia Donaldson is loved by my grandchildren but The Christmas Stickman looks great especially after they saw Stickman at the theatre just a week or two ago ???
