Why you should always glance in the mirror

Before children there is often a reasonable amount of time spent in front of the mirror.  Not necessarily from a vanity point of view, more the fact that you have the time. You can do your makeup in front of a mirror and at least get a profile glance of yourself before you leave the house.

The thing is, we have less time to look in the mirror after children and that’s where this all gets a bit back to front because we REALLY need the mirror when we have children.

I really think that however busy we are then it’s always an idea to at least glance in the mirror before you leave…well anywhere really.

If I glanced in the mirror more often I would have noticed:

  • That I once left the house with the leg of a Plasticine spider firmly mushed in my hair;
  • That I had a snot trail as long as the Nile down my leg on Monday;
  • That I’d only put mascara on one eye that busy Wednesday the other week;
  • That the morning after the night before toddler sick gate I had sick in my hair when I left for the school run…I just thought the smell was lingering
  • That I forgot to rub the dry shampoo in last Friday;
  • That two days on the run I hadn’t done the zip up on my jeans;
  • That one sorry day I left the house wearing snot, poo and sick -impressive right?

  1. Bahahaha. I once left the house with my shirt completely undone, bra exposed, after a rather ferocious hug from little miss. Oh dear! ? #brilliantblogposts

  2. Until reading this I didn’t actual realize how much I *had* stopped looking in the mirror and considering I’ve done almost all of the above list, I definitely need to rectify that! #thelist

  3. Haha it totally depends on my mood….sometimes I make a concerted effort NOT to glance in the mirror….but other times like you I massively regret not doing so! #FridayFrolics

  4. Yes! The clearly-only-half-done makeup, that no kind soul thinks to point out to you during the day and you only notice when you go to take it off at night! Also, the t-shirt still pulled down on one side revealing half of your nursing bra (thankfully bra done up, not entire breast on display). It’s all about the glamour, right? #FridayFrolics

  5. Ha ha dry shampoo: so brilliant but it can go horribly wrong can’t it! I narrowly escaped spraying my hair with Mr Sheen, which I can stupidly put next to my dry shampoo – both orange cans!! I’ve gone out with one eyebrow done, and came home last week to see toothpaste from my toddler’s mouth on my crotch, and mud from carrying the four year old’s scooter on my bum. Endless glamour! 6. I cant decide if it is better to live in ignorant bliss, or check and be forced to change your entire outfit before doing the school run when you’re already late. My daughter is obsessed with stickers and I have previously left the house with a sparkly fish sticker on the back of my right thigh, and 2 unicorns in my hair.

  7. Haha! Hilarious, but definitely true! I have also been known to forget that I had only done half of what little make up I was trying to put on! #FridayFrolics

  8. Hahaha!! You are not alone …I have made it to the high street wearing a Minnie Mouse head band and on another occasion … I wore my husbands size 10 flip-flops to pre -school drop off.

  9. What a great post! I always tend to go out with all sorts on me and cant remember the last time I walked out the house clean. The best thing I have done so far is have a tissue fall out my bra….when I am in my pjs with no pockets I will stuff one down there so I have one when chasing my little one around, but I forgot to remove it the other day and it came out the top of my top at work! The joys of motherhood #TwinklyTuesday x

  10. Very funny! We’ve all done it. I think my dilemma now is actually getting nearing the mirror as I have a 9 year old who is becoming quite keen on the mirror herself. I have done the dry shampoo trick on a number of occasions. #twinklytuesday

  11. OMG you are SOO right, there has been many an occasion when I spot myself in the reflection of something (not normally a mirror) while out and see something unsavoury! Great post 🙂 Thanks for linking up to #Thelist xxx

  12. Hahahahaha!!! I answered the door once with my boob out!!! I’d been breastfeeding the boys and just forgotten to put it away!!! Oh the shame. Good job the person that delivers our mail is female!! 😀 Thanks so much for linking up with us for #TwinklyTuesday, we really appreciate it 🙂

  13. I’m always doing that and am having to make a conscious effort to look in the mirror so I don’t spend all day with chocolate around my face. #twinklytuesday
