Toronto was our first stop along our epic Trans-Canadian adventure. We really enjoyed our time in Toronto. We were prepared for everything to be very busy and crowded and we expected to queue extensively for everything and that just wasn’t the case. We were very pleasantly surprised.
One of the first things we did was to take a trip up the CN Tower. This was something we had been really looking forward to, anticipating mega views – we do love a good view! The day we went was pretty cloudy, so we held off to see if the cloud would lift a bit. It did and we decided to head on over to the tower.
We had been down by the marina, so this was just a few minutes walk. Everything in Toronto seemed pretty accessible and easy to walk to and we found parking relatively easily.

There are a few options for your visit, the CN Tower is considered to be the most iconic place to visit in Toronto. There’s a range of experiences for everyone, whether you’re a sightseer, a thrill-seeker, or a total foodie. If you are just there to sightsee, you will need the general admission ticket. If you are feeling like a challenge, grab yourself the Edge Walk tickets – the world’s highest full circle hands-free walk and the first of its kind in North America! If food is your thing, book yourself a table at the 360 degree restaurant and dine with an incredible view.
We did the general sightseeing tour on our trip, which offered plenty of amazing views and a few thrills of it’s own – like when we walked across the glass floor! It’s such an odd sensation, you literally feel like you are stepping ‘off’ something, but the floor is completely flat.
There was very little queuing on the day we visited. Staff were very efficient and helpful and kept any lines moving swiftly.
We stepped off the high-speed elevator on the Main Observation Level, 346 metres (1,136 feet) above ground. The window walls make the perfect setting for taking photos and making memories, and offer incredible views of the city and surrounding areas.
Whilst it doesn’t feel like there is much between you and the outdoors, the windows are seriously heavy duty: each panel is nearly 7 centimetres (2.75 inches) thick! Also very clever is the thermochromic technology in the glass of the window walls – it adjusts to sunlight to allow for great photos all day and all night. Genius! I mean, just look how clearly you can see everything!
We thoroughly enjoyed pottering around looking at the view from a range of places on the main observation deck. There are plenty of bathrooms and somewhere to get drinks, snacks and ice creams. The children enjoyed trying out the Ice Cream Sundays and we enjoyed chatting to the lovely man who served us. He seemed so happy in his work and very grateful to be able to work with such an incredible view.
You are free to explore at your leisure and head back down the lift when it suits you and your group. You don’t have to lean on the glass to get a great view, so if there is someone in your group not keen on heights, they can take a seat or stand nearer the centre of the building, whilst still appreciating the scenery – did I mention how spectacular that is?
If you are planning on visiting Toronto, don’t leave without making a trip to the CN Tower, you honestly won’t be disappointed! Here’s a little taster of what you can expect from a visit to the CN Tower.
