Just when we thought household costs couldn’t possibly increase further, two of the nation’s favourite streaming services have announced price increases to come into place this summer. With Netflix’s new pricing structure already underway and Amazon Prime increasing their annual fee from £79 to £95 this September, Nationwide, many families are looking at their monthly outgoings and deciding whether to cut subscription costs, with one million users cancelling Netflix subscriptions already.
So how can we save money, but continue getting our fix of binge-worthy box sets? Perhaps cancelling expensive streaming services is an opportunity to go ‘old school’ with a return to analog!
Ziffit, trader of used DVDs and Blu-Rays, has put together a top ten list of what to watch if you’re one of the one million households that have cancelled your account already. Or if you’re considering leaving, here’s what you should watch next!
Harry Potter shares the bill with classic crime shows The Wire and Sopranos, and Lord of the Rings takes the fourth spot. There’s a great mix for both the kids and an evening for the adults – and you could even use the money saved for popcorn and a bottle of wine. Here are Ziffit’s top ten most popular selections to keep the family entertained:
- Harry Potter – Complete 8-Film Collection
- The Sopranos: The Complete Series
- The Wire: The Complete Series
- The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Extended Edition Box Set)
- Max And Paddy’s Road To Nowhere
- Phoenix Nights: Series 1 and 2
- Cabaret
- Game of Thrones: Season 1
- Dexter series
- Hustle – The Complete Series
More on Ziffit
The Ziffit app is super easy to use and as well as helping you make some money, it’s a great way to declutter. You can even make it an activity with the kids – sending them on a mission to scan the barcodes of all your pre-loved books and DVDs. And you can earn some money back too – it’s win win!
For me, it feels good to know you’ve given unused items a new home and helped the environment by avoiding sending more stuff to landfill.
With the extra space I now have available, I’ve been working my way through the Wob.com website making a wish list of books to get secondhand – guilt free, as Wob is part of the same circular economy group as Ziffit. It’s a great place to get back-to-school books cheaper than usual too!
