  1. Take walks to the local parks and take scooters and bicycles out for rides as often as possible for as long as possible.

  2. Make use of local facilities, we are near the coast so get out to the beach as much as possible, visit local parks and have picnic

  3. A balance between helping with chores or every day tasks and playing. We can have a treat if we do this task.

  4. Try and get out the house as much as possible. Even if it’s just for a walk down the street. My children will always find something to do which will lead to other things and that keeps us busy!

  5. Preparation is key! I try and have lots of rainy day activities planned and cheap days out to keep them entertained 🙂

  6. Create a list of free things you can take your kids to during the holidays before the holidays comes. There are usually websites that list stuff for kids. In London we have Timeout, Londonist and our own borough’s website. That way you won’t be in a last minute panic of what to do.

  7. We are lucky enough to live near the beach so we spent a lot of time there and I just had to keep saying no to icecreams constantly and take our own picnic down there. i did treat with ice creams sometimes but that gets costly too!

  8. Buy lots of food and food to keep summer moving smoother in the hot summer weather and have lots of days out planned.

  9. Plan a trip out for at least 2 of the days a week doesn’t have to be anywhere too expensive even just a fun woodland walk, and hen 2 days at home chilling out.

  10. If you’ve got a garden use it, lunch is much more exciting if it’s a picnic in the garden, make a tent, stargaze, toast marshmallows, plant things and watch them grow, make bird & insect feeders. Low cost and you didn’t have to go anywhere.

  11. We visit local parks, feed the ducks, take picnics and meet up with the children’s friends. They have fun and it costs very little to keep them entertained

  12. Look into what is going on in your local area. Our local area has loads of free kids activities. Great fun to keep them entertained for zero cost.
