The memory of a good book can stay with you for a lifetime. I’ve always rated a book based on its ability to absorb me into the story and make me feel part of it. There were numerous books that did that for me as a child. Roald Dahl’s books such as Danny the Champion of the World, The Witches and George’s Marvelous Medicine were all books that did this and books I still love today.
What is so wonderful is that books that I enjoyed as a child can evoke the same feelings in my children. The Witches is a firm favourite in our house, as are many more of the Roald Dahl books. The Harry Potter books are also very popular in our house and anything by Julia Donaldson we love as well.
Stuart Morris have created this charming info graphic which recommends some top reads across a range of ages. Take a look below, how many of these have you read with your children? Are all of these titles on your children’s bookshelf?
It would be very easy, in this digital age to do away with books altogether but that would be such a crime. There is nothing quite like sitting in a cosy corner with your child reading a story and watching their faces as the story unfolds.
All our children have a bookcase each, beautiful bookcases their grandfather has made for them and they are over-flowing with books – I intend to keep it that way and I hope their love of reading will grow and grow.
What is your approach to reading with your children? What is on their bookshelf?

Oh, totally agree with those titles! Our bookshelves are heaving and I think it would be a very sad day if digital completely took over from real books. I think we have most if not all of those books!
So good to hear and so glad you agree 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your bookshelf !
