Winnipeg was somewhere we spent a couple of nights during our Trans-Canadian road trip. Winnipeg is a mass of wonderful things to do with children. If you are visiting, the hardest part will be narrowing down what you want to do. If you are a regular reader of the blog, you may have seen my recent article on the stunning Assiniboine Park. Whilst in Winnipeg, we also visited Assiniboine Zoo.
One of the stops we made during our Trans-Canadian road trip was Thunder Bay, driving from Wawa the previous day, which was around 5h15 in total. We broke this up with lots of interesting stops along the way, a couple of which are included here.
After leaving the humidity of Niagara Falls, where we had felt as if we were melting, we drove a couple of hours to Barrie in Ontario, where we made a very welcome stop off at Splash ON.

Toronto seemed like a really family-friendly city from what we could tell. Although busy, it was not the shoulder to shoulder busy that you find in so many cities around the world. It felt safe, people were friendly, there was lots of inner city parking available and once in the city it was easy to navigate.
There can be a great deal of pressure on parents to sign children up for everything going. Hobbies can become very costly, especially when you have more than one child. It can be a difficult balance between giving children opportunities and overscheduling them or spending a fortune.
With temperatures forecast to rise above 30 degrees across the UK next week, and with weather warnings issued, the UK is in the midst of a heatwave that looks like it will coincide with the start of the school summer holidays.

Some families we know have somehow managed to dodge the various restrictions over the last two years and not had to cancel things, but for us certainly, this will be the first family holiday abroad since COVID changed all our lives.
