This week, some children in England have returned to school. In Wales, that hasn’t happened yet, but this week we have heard that schools in Wales will re-open at the end of June. It does not seem that this will be in a teaching capacity, but more of a checking-in with pupils prior to the summer holidays and September. Plans were also announced regarding extending the summer term by one week.
It’s week eight on the Coronacoster – how are you all doing? Crisis schooling certainly has it’s ups and downs doesn’t it. I’ve generally found that the lower I set my expectations at the start of the day, the better the day and the more we achieve, so I’ve been trying to roll with that as much as possible.
We’ve been working our way through the various tasks set by school again this week. For the little boys that means uploading their work via the See Saw App, and for the older children, via the online system they use to send their work to their teachers.
I said early on in this process that home schooling is a choice, this is crisis schooling and that is something very different. It’s also different for those families who normally home school their children – why? Well, because they won’t be used to being schooled 100% from home either, they will be used to outdoor learning, museum trips and other learning excursions.

Last week of the Easter holidays here this week, so we’ve eased off on the formal work and learning and opted to spend as much time outside as possible.
This week is actually school Easter holidays here, but with the weeks all blending into one, we’ve still been doing some home learning activities.
Technically we are in the school holiday period now, so the children would have been off school anyway – but with so many people having to cancel their plans due to COVID-19, and having spent the last two weeks home schooling children, the lines have become a bit blurred.
